Mythology: The Wicked by Helen Boswell

Blurb~
Book two of the Mythology series.

A demon with a pure heart, Micah Condie lives his life by a code of ethics, but breaking that code may be the only way for him to survive. A supernatural entity in her own right, Hope Gentry would do anything in her power to protect her loved ones, but she may be the one who puts them in peril.

When the Demon Impiorum challenges the laws that keep guardians and demons in balance, ancient enforcers of justice intervene. Micah, Hope, and their mentor Jonathan become entangled in a conspiracy that will test even the deepest love and trust.

Someone will commit an act of betrayal. Someone will forever abandon a loved one.

Someone will enter THE WICKED.

My Review~

Micah and Hope are fighters. Fighting for the same thing... each other. But in Mythology The Wicked forces beyond them work to rip apart everything they have fought to keep. Secrets become revealed, secrets are kept and decisions are made. Either way everything changes.

Micah battles his true nature everyday, refusing to give into the darkness that grows within. The darkness that literally kills him with every breath. But Micah is a fighter. Determined to live his life by a very high moral code. But alone, Micah is forced to make a decision that may very well be the end of him, Hope and everyone he cares about.

Hope fights to find her balance in her new life. With Jonathan as her guide and Micah as her guiding force, she is a force for good. But she faces choices, revelations and consequences of her own.

There are two sides to every story. To sides to every coin. Yin and Yang. Right and Wrong. Light and Dark. And there are consequences for every decision we make. For some the consequences are known while the choice is made. But for some the choice is made while the consequences lay hidden in the dark where it's dangerous to go.

Mythology The Wicked is that story.  A story of choices. Decisions that have lasting consequences. Ones that lead our characters down paths they thought they would never travel.

I have always loved stories about good vs. evil. And I commend Helen Boswell for shaking things up with the old good vs. evil fight. Who says darkness snuffs out the light? And that darkness can't breed light? Micah shows us that light can be bred in the dark. He is a beacon for all that is good and is a fighter in every sense of the word. No matter the darkness or consequences he faces he always fights for truth, love, good, and the right. Micah brings light to dark places and deserves all the good, all the love and most definitely Hope.

The characters in Mythology The Wicked are beautifully crafted. It is obvious that author Helen Boswell puts a lot of thought and time into developing the entire life of her characters. They are not just surface characters but have real substance. They are characters you fight for as hard as they fight for each other. And it's not just the main characters that get this treatment, but every character that graces the page. Each one adding another layer to the story.

Mythology The Wicked is an explosive story full of twists and turns that you never see coming. You know something is going to happen. You can feel it like a weight with every page you turn. Every choice Hope and Micah makes adds another weight to your chest. You know bad things are going to happen, but there is nothing you can do to stop it. And no matter how many times you yell at your kindle or book you know that the choices are already made. But trust me that didn't stop me from yelling at both Micah and Hope every step of the way.

Mythology The Wicked is one of those stories that you can't help but devour. It is delectable in every sense of the word. It has great characters, action, good vs. evil, love, and a story that will leave you with a weight on your chest and it is one you will welcome.

"I can't be the judge of anyone's life. And I don't want to be." (kindle, loc 2057).

You may look at the above moment and scratch your head. Why did she pick this moment out of the entire book? Well let me tell you. I chose this particular moment because it is just one of the reasons that Micah is amazing. This just adds to the long list of reasons to love him.
